Free Background Remover
A background remover deletes the area behind a subject and leaves it transparent, so the cutout can sit on any color or design. This free tool detects plain backgrounds from the image edges, lets you refine the result with erase and restore brushes, and downloads a transparent PNG at full size. It runs entirely in your browser and works best on solid or simple backgrounds.

Drag and drop an image here, or
PNG, JPEG, or WebP up to 15 MB, at most 5000px per side and 16 megapixels. The example is drawn by your browser, so it works offline.

Refine the cutout
Automatic removal works best on solid or simple backgrounds that touch the image edges. Use the brushes for anything it misses.
Higher removes colors further from the edge color. Lower it if parts of the subject disappear.
Softens the outline so edges blend on any background. Use 0 for a crisp edge.
How to remove the background from an image
- 1
Add an image
Drop or choose a PNG, JPEG, or WebP up to 15 MB, or load the example. The image stays in your browser.
- 2
Let it remove the background
The edge color is detected and connected background pixels are made transparent automatically.
- 3
Refine the cutout
Adjust tolerance and edge feather, compare before and after, and use the erase and restore brushes.
- 4
Download the transparent PNG
Save a full-size PNG with real transparency. Any later change clears the old file so the download matches the preview.

Frequently asked questions
Is this background remover really free and private?
Yes. There is no account, watermark, or usage limit. Your image is decoded and processed with the canvas in your own browser, and nothing is uploaded to Launch Blitz or sent to an AI service.
What kinds of photos work best?
Automatic removal works best when the subject sits on a solid or simple background that touches the image edges, such as a studio product shot, a logo on white, or a portrait against a plain wall. Busy scenes, gradients, and subjects that share the background color need more manual brushing, and a dedicated AI tool may do better on them.
How does the automatic removal work?
The tool samples the pixels around the image border to find the background color, then flood-fills inward through connected pixels within your tolerance. Areas enclosed by the subject are kept even if they match the background color, so labels and highlights are not punched out.
Does the download keep transparency and the original size?
Yes. The PNG has a real alpha channel and matches the original width and height. The light, dark, or custom preview background is only for checking edges and is never baked into the file.
How do I fix parts the tool missed?
Turn on the erase brush to remove leftover background, including enclosed gaps like the inside of a handle, and the restore brush to bring back subject pixels. Lower the tolerance if the subject is being eaten away, and add a little edge feather for smoother outlines.
